Join WFTDA

Congratulations on joining the ranks of Flat Track Derby skaters! We’re proud to announce that the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association has opened up membership and is now accepting applications.

Requirements for WFTDA membership:

  • League must play seventy-five percent (75%) or more of their public bouts as flat track derby.
  • Teams in league must be comprised of female quad skaters only.
  • Fifty-one percent (51%) or more of league owners must be flat track derby skaters, whether active, injured, or retired (note that “skater” also implies female). [This ownership requirement may not be applicable to leagues with non-profit business structure.]
  • Sixty-seven percent (67%) or more of the league management must be must be flat track derby skaters, whether active, injured, or retired (note that “skater” also implies female.)
  • League must pay annual dues.

Here is what you need to do to apply to WFTDA:

  1. Read the following documents to understand why you should apply to WFTDA:
  2. Sign the Confidentiality Agreement
  3. Download and complete the WFTDA Membership Application. This form is a fillable document that can be typed into using Microsoft Word. If you do not have Microsoft Word, you can download and print a PDF version. The application requires the following be submitted:
    • A notarized document in which the applicant demonstrates it meets all membership requirements outlined above.
    • The applicant’s tax identification number.
    • Signatures and legal names of all current owners, managers, and participating skaters in the applicant’s league.
    • Three (3) letters of reference from three (3) different existing WFTDA Members. At least one letter of reference must be from the closest in proximity league. Please read the Letters of Reference document to get an idea of who you should ask to write your league’s letters of reference. Letters of reference must be emailed directly to membership@wftda.com or sent by postal mail directly to the address below.
    • A non-refundable membership application fee of $75.00
  4. Instructions for sending to WFTDA
    • Make a copy of your materials for you to keep.
    • It is recommended that you scan in your signed application and confidentiality agreement and email it to membership@wftda.com.
  5. You will also need to mail a hard copy of the application with signatures, the application fee, and the signed WFTDA Confidentiality Agreement to:

If you have not heard back from WFTDA within 2 weeks of turning your application materials in, please contact membership@wftda.com.

Review process

The review process of your application will not begin until your application fee has been received. If your area representative who is reviewing your application has questions, they will either visit your league or call you. If a visit to your league is not necessary and all questions can be answered, you will be notified within one month of WFTDA receiving your application fee if you have been accepted to WFTDA or if there are additional requirements that you need to meet before being accepted.
